A beginner’s guide for BS/MD Program
The standard track to become a physician: 4 years of college (earn B.S.), taking MCAT, Applying for Med School, Interview, and ADMISSION from a MED School.
Then, what is a BS/MD program?
A BS/MD program bypasses this standard path by offering conditional acceptance to medical school to high school students. The conditional acceptance is not guaranteed acceptance but must be satisfied in the undergraduate program in order for the medical school offer to still be valid.
What? Conditional? ….. Don’t worry!
Generally, combined medical programs require students to maintain a certain GPA(+3.5) and a certain score on the MCAT. But some schools have no MCAT requirement at all. This is a very attractive aspect to apply for these BS/MD programs.
How long is the BS/MD program?
It depends on the schools.
- seven years combined program (3+4)
- eight years combined program (4+4)
- six years combined program (2+4)
Is it hard to get in?
YES! OF COURSE! The most program has less than a dozen spots for incoming freshmen: a few accept more but are so well-known that they receive hundreds, even thousands, of applicants every cycle (Ex: Northwestern’s HPME and Brown’s PLME)
CollegeTOP Consulting is the right place to help students apply for a BS/MD program with highly expert consultants who have worked for Med School consulting.
